Our Story
Tekota Builds LLC was founded in 2026 by two co-owners — transplants from South Dakota and Texas who have completely fallen in love with all the charms Kansas City has to offer.
After relocating to this vibrant area, we saw an opportunity to bring our diverse backgrounds and fresh perspectives to residential remodeling. One founder has over a decade of hands-on construction experience across all aspects of the trade, while the other brings expertise in operations and real estate investing — giving us unique insight into what homeowners truly want: beautiful, functional spaces delivered with transparency and care.
We launched Tekota Builds to create a better remodeling experience for Johnson County families, focusing on communities like Overland Park, Leawood, Prairie Village, Shawnee, and Mission Hills. Starting small and local, we’re dedicated to crafting homes that reflect the warmth and reliability we’ve found here in Kansas City.
The name “Tekota” is a blend of our roots — the heart and boldness of Texas (“Te”) combined with the strength and dependability of the Dakotas (“kota”). It represents the thoughtful, resilient approach we bring to every project as we build our own lives in this gorgeous area.

Dustin spent the last decade in Texas, where he honed his construction expertise, managed projects of all sizes and scopes, from ground-up new builds to high-end remodeling across multiple states, and met his lovely wife. Together, they’re now raising their three energetic boys while embracing everything Kansas City has to offer. Dustin’s diverse, hands-on experience gives him an exceptional command of every phase of construction, from framing and structural work to fine finishes. He brings that same dedication, reliability, and family-focused mindset to every Tekota Builds project, ensuring your home is built right and feels just like home.
Daniel
Founder & Operations Lead
Daniel relocated to Kansas City from South Dakota, bringing a strong background in operations, finance, and serial entrepreneurship with a deep passion for real estate. His journey into construction was inspired by personal experiences, dealing with contractors who lacked transparency and made promises they couldn’t keep.
